Academic Excellence
Veritas Virtual is committed to academic excellence, albeit in a virtual learning environment. We understand that a traditional learning environment is not the answer for every teen. There are many students who, for a wide variety of reasons, need the flexibility that only a virtual school can provide. But these students -- and in particular their parents -- do NOT want to sacrifice academic excellence in order to obtain that flexible programming. Veritas Virtual can be the answer for these teens and their parents.
At Veritas students, while engaged with their course curriculum in the privacy of their own home, have regular opportunities to interact with certified teachers as well as with other students taking the same course. Phone and computer support are important ways of providing interaction with peers and the teacher. Just because a student is at home does not mean they cannot participate in group discussions with other teens, ask questions, or receive instruction from a certified teacher.
Veritas Virtual is a completely unique virtual school in that it encourages -- and awards credit for -- community service and support of the local arts through attendance of approved concerts and theatrical productions. These might be on a collegiate level through a local university, or on a community level. Regarding community service, Veritas is firmly committed to a belief that our students should be taught to give back to the community something of what that community contributes to us as individuals.
Another significant distinction of Veritas Virtual over any other virtual (or traditional) school program is the inclusion of travel in its regular programming. Seeing is indeed believing, and a picture is, in fact, worth a thousand words (or more!). Therefore, we provide opportunities every semester for our students to travel around the country to see for themselves the things most students simply read about in books! Go to our "Semester Travel" page under "About Veritas" to see some of the specific experiences our students have had over the past two years. You will be amazed! These travel opportunities are available to all students who participate in some aspect of the Veritas program. They are an incredible means of reinforcing and expanding on the things being read about in various courses. But the travel also develops character as teens learn many important life lessons during these significant trips.
There is no question that we want our students to be prepared for college; it is our primary task to prepare them for that eventuality. But we believe it is important to teach our kids that learning is not only what takes place in a classroom or from a book, rather learning is a lifelong adventure that has no limitations, other than those we choose to impose on ourselves. LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN!
